This is a fair criticism and something that we want to address as we continue to make improvements to our newly relaunched website. It has a long way to go still, and this kind of feedback is very helpful in directing our attention. Thanks — and sorry to hear about your frustration.

I agree completely with the original poster. I found it incredible that I couldn't figure out how to get an Open ID on the Open ID website. I have a Blogger blog but it is hosted on a private domain so it didn't seem to work using the blogspot address or the redirected www address. I came here to find out what I needed to do to make my comments on websites link to my blog (a pretty basic thing to want), and I couldn't figure it out.

Ironically, I think I just got an Open ID by trying to sign in here to comment -- still not entirely sure, though! It took me around in circles a couple of times. I filled in the boxes two or three times, and I believe this is going to direct to my Google profile rather than my blog.

The page telling people that they may already have an Open ID and how to sign in using it is good, but a few suggestions:

    1. Link to a Help explanation if the basic sign in instructions don't work.

    2. Be more clear about the examples. For example, using Blogger, the example shows “blogname.blogspot.com”. But should that actually be http://blogname.blogspot.com ? (I tried both ways and neither worked.) Probably a lot of people don't even see that small print.

    3. What if you don't use any of those services, where do you go, what do you do to get an Open ID? The page does not say. I really found it amazing that I couldn't find it. "Get an Open ID" page should tell you how to get one!

    4. And WOW! If you think that tutorial is helpful, you need to get a non-tech, average internet user to try to get an Open ID! If I have to go through all that to get an ID, I won't be getting one.

I was going to direct my blog readers here to get an Open ID but .... no thanks. How could I explain something to them that I can't figure out myself? And this is coming from someone who explains semi-techy stuff to people all the time!

Sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but your website really misses the mark.
